A benefit concert is happening in Marana this Saturday to help a local non-profit raise money for equine assisted therapy programs.

Agape Acres Therapeutic Riding Center offers equine programs to help people with disabilities and veterans.

“We can then offer scholarships to kids who can’t afford to pay for lessons and help develop more programs,” said Janie Nelson, the co-founder of Agape Acres. “We want to add a veterans program this summer and we are looking into working with another organization to become certified in equine restoration program that will benefit survivors of sex trafficking and sexual abuse.”

Nelson said there is something about getting on a horse that helps people feel independent.

“Just from riding they are able to develop horse strength and we work on cognitive and developmental issues and they get a sense of accomplishment,” she said.

Scott Helmer, a one-man rock and country show, will be performing.

The concert is from 4-8 pm. For tickets, click here.
